New recruitment advertising efforts are going on in both the state of Illinois as well as the state of Washington, both fighting off competition from employers in the northeastern U.S. and California.

The Illinois Technology Association has launched a new portal for jobs in Chicago and throughout the state. Candidates can join a talent network, which member companies can search. University students also can join a “student college network.”

Association members are also posting jobs and career tips on a Twitter feed.

Meanwhile, in Washington, a biotech/biomedical association is stepping up its efforts to bring people to its career center and more broadly, to its state. The Puget Sound Business Journal says the association will likely advertise in Boston, as well as southern and northern California, to spread the word of its life-sciences jobs.

“One part of incentivizing people to come here for work is reassuring employees that there will also be opportunities for their significant others here,” the Journal reports.

The biotech/biomedical association says that its field is responsible for $18 billion in Washington economic activity.
