Here’s something of interest for those who read that heavily tweeted post looking for someone “really tall and handsome.” A new hiring announcement in China is drawing fire from the group China Labor Watch.
China Labor Watch, a non-profit that works with unions to point out alleged issues in Chinese factories, says it shot a photo of a Samsung job posting on August 29, one asking for female applicants who “cannot have a communicable disease.”
China Labor Watch points out that “Article 30 of the Employment Promotion Law of the People’s Republic of China states, “No employment unit, when recruiting employees, shall refuse to employ a job candidate on the basis that he/she is a carrier of any infectious pathogen.”
This isn’t the first time the labor watchdog has gone after Samsung.
It has said Samsung’s supplier is “exploiting child labor” and has said its factories and its suppliers’ factories have people in unsafe conditions.
Samsung, meanwhile, says it’s complying with all labor laws and reviewing the working conditions at its plants. It also put out a release describing its audits of Chinese factories and how it is correcting any problems.
