At TwoScots Recruitment, we care about the youth of tomorrow, so we recently teamed up with Melbourne City Mission in an effort to boost the confidence of disadvantaged youths, while assisting them to get into the Melbourne workforce.

Melbourne City Mission has developed a two-week intensive program that supports completely disengaged young people aged 15-25 to develop their employability skills while undertaking intensive careers workshops — known as the “Plan Your Future” Pre-Accredited Training program.

The young people in this program are completely disengaged for a number of reasons that include homelessness, substance abuse, and disrupted family relationships.

Melbourne City Mission Corporate Partnerships Coordinator Marie Chung said the opportunity for the youths to spend the day with recruiters is a priceless experience, making this a rewarding experience for all involved.

The recruitment workshop we ran was the pinnacle of Melbourne City Mission’s two-week intensive program and included helping clients to prepare for job interviews, the dos and don’ts during an interview, and post interview processes.

It was an experience that I found to be eye opening for all involved.

Putting a suit on and coming into a city office was a big deal for these kids, and it’s something a lot of us take for granted everyday.

They also received professional attire from not-for-profit charity “Wear for Success,” which they wore throughout the workshop and will wear to future interviews.

We, alongside Melbourne City Mission, offered an opportunity for these young people to not only gain real life experience, but we also provided them with the opportunity to build on their self-confidence by offering a sense of validation.

At the close of the two-week program, Melbourne City Mission will provide ongoing casework support to facilitate their re-engagement and independence in the community.

It’s always been important to us as a company to be able to give back wherever possible and to donate our time to initiatives that are close to us.

Although we’re a specialist recruitment company focusing solely on the recruitment of accounting support staff, office support staff, and all qualified accountant positions, we would be delighted to represent these youths if the opportunity arose. Experiences like these can be incredibly eye opening and rewarding for all involved.
