Buyer of Standout Jobs Finally Named

Standout Jobs has been acquired by Talent Technology. The announcement the Montreal company was bought was actually made in May, but the buyer wasn’t named then.

Today, Talent Technology issued a press release saying it bought Standout Jobs and TalentSpring, confirming a report published last week by Amybeth Hale, my colleague at Sourcecon.com. She has more details about the two purchases in a post today that also discusses the implications of the sale for Talent Technology.

Standout Jobs, oddly enough, posted an announcement about the buyer yesterday. It really only amounted to a headline, which read, “Special Announcement: Talent Technology acquires Standout Jobs.” It came down within an hour of my leaving messages about it.

Standout Jobs is an interesting counterpoint to TalentSpring. Both companies are in the sourcing side of talent acquisition: TalentSpring has a candidate search engine that parses job reqs and searches the Internet to find candidates suitably matched to the requirements. Montreal-based Standout Jobs launched in 2007 as a do-it-yourself career site builder for the SMB market. It refocused a year later emphasizing its SEO capabilities and social media recruiting services over the technology.

Talent Technology, headquartered in British Columbia, is a recruitment technology company with an ATS — HireDesk — and a resume search tool — ResumeMirror — as its primary products. Both have been named as top HR products by HR Executive.

Incidentally, the former CEO and co-founder of Standout Jobs wrote a direct, unvarnished, and, frankly, moving blog post about the birth, life, and sale of the company. It’s a worthwhile read for everyone curious about what it means to be a startup, and an entrepreneur.
