It was about five years ago that the State Department in the U.S. proposed putting together a careers application for smart phones. The government began development last year and launched this March, hoping to generate 10,000 downloads within a year.
Rachel C. Friedland, who wrote the proposal and was a leader of the project at the State Department, told me today that the department has hit its annual target — in 90 days.
The app is about careers in what in the U.S. is called the Foreign Service. Job candidates can learn what it’s like to have a Foreign Service job, and practice the types of questions (500 samples are available, taken from old tests) they’d be taking if they opt for the Foreign Service Officer exam.
They can also find local recruiting events such as a career fair, as well as contact a local “Diplomat in Residence.”
Reviews are looking pretty good. A company called MetroStar Systems helped with the project.
