14Fiesta_railNot all the news from Michigan is bad these days: Ford says tonight on its website that it’ll be hiring 800 more people than expected.

It’s also hoping to “create 12,000 hourly jobs in the U.S. by 2015.”

The 800 number means that in total, Ford is hiring 3,000 salaried employees this year. Ford says that “80 percent will be technical professionals to meet demand for new skills; 85 to 90 percent will be in Michigan, with the remaining positions at Ford locations throughout the United States.”

About 2,400 of the roles will be technical jobs in product development, manufacturing, quality, purchasing, and IT; these jobs could be tough to fill because even in struggling Detroit, there’s competition for talent.

Expect a lot of the advertising to be on LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook (three places Ford believes its candidates are), and on college campuses. Ford’s theme of “The Distance Between You and an Amazing Career Has Never Been Shorter” will aim to show that Ford jobs involve imagination and innovation.

Ford’s June sales were its best since 2006.
