To fill their toughest healthcare and tech jobs, the nation’s employers are increasingly turning to staffing firms for help.
Research firm WANTED Technologies says employers are most likely to hire a search firm to find registered nurses, application software developers, and web developers. Based on Wanted’s analysis of online job postings, demand for RNs increased by 25% in a year. For web developers, demand rose 42% and for software developers it increased a whopping 73%.
Each of these jobs was already among the most challenging to fill; RN’s have been at or near the top of hardest to fill lists for years. On the Wanted list of jobs most likely to require help from an outside agency to fill, 7 of the top 10 are computer and Internet related. Besides nurses, only accountants and bookkeepers / accounting clerks made the list.
“Due to hiring growth and more competition to find and attract the best talent, companies in certain industries are facing increasingly difficult recruiting conditions,” said Meredith Amdur, president and CEO of WANTED Technologies. “Staffing firms are being hired to fill excess jobs that HR teams can’t fill internally either due to overall challenging conditions or lack of internal recruiting time and resources especially for these jobs with niche skillsets.”
Wanted suggests employers skip trying to fill these high demand positions themselves and go directly to an outside firm. “Employers may be able to reduce the time-to-fill and cost-per-hire by enlisting a third party agency that specializes in these areas and has the industry-specific resources to connect with qualified candidates,” says Wanted.
