Ask Barb: Achieving the Next Level of Success

Dear Barb:

I keep hearing the market is better, but I’m not producing more. Would you be willing to share some of your best suggestions to help me become more successful? I’m a single mom (I know you were once one too) and I have to earn more money this year to provide for my family. I promise to follow your advice to the letter.

Dear Jen:

I was a single mom for fifteen years and it was my children who motivated me to higher levels of success. Monitor your individual numbers and stats so you can set the minimum results you need each day to consistently hit or surpass your goals. Write down specifically what you’re trying to achieve for yourself and your family.

Here are some additional tips that will help you gain a higher level of success:

1.     Only write Job Orders you can fill

  • Walk away from bad business
  • Obtain a target date to fill (not ASAP)
  • Obtain interview times
  • Have everyone in the hiring process sign off on the order you write

2.     Focus on activities closest to the money each day

  • Each day ask, “Where is my send-out today?”
  • When in doubt, send them out and let your clients decide
  • Commit to completing six actions closest to the money daily

3.     Focus on the 5% of your candidates that you WILL place

  • Focus on candidates with skills, stability, and experience
  • Provide resources for the other 95% (if you don’t have resources go to www.happycandidates.com)

4.     Provide a list of expectations

  • Inform your candidates what they can expect from you and what you expect from them. Provide this in writing.
  • Inform your clients what they can expect from you and what you expect from them. Provide this in writing.

Lastly, don’t be afraid of failure or rejection; they are all part of the process.
