Adecco’s Google Express Drivers Seek Union Vote

Contract warehouse and shipping workers working for Google Express are petitioning to have the Teamsters Union represent them.

The 140 workers are employed by Adecco in the San Francisco Bay Area to provide same-day and overnight delivery for Google’s shipping service. According to a press release issued by the union, the workers are unhappy Adecco requires them to sign two year employment agreements, and fails to provide them a safe working environment.

An Adecco spokeswoman said the company had yet to see the representation petition, adding that no “complaints or reports on the type of conditions that were cited” have been received.

The unionizing petition is only the latest round in a long-running effort by unions in Silicon Valley to organize the thousands of non-tech contract workers who provide services from preparing and serving meals in company cafeterias, security, and drive the commuter buses provided by firms such as Apple, Google and Facebook.
