Dear Barb:
What can I change to have my best quarter in the last quarter of this year? I’ve done well this year, but the last quarter of each year has always been my worst. Clients and candidates get so distracted during the holidays that it has prevented me from keeping momentum going to the end of the year. Do you have any suggestions?

Avoid Distractions. Increase Your Sendouts
It’s important that you change your mindset and expectations. Many employers must spend their hiring budgets by 12.31 or their budget could be reduced the following year. Many candidates do not get the holiday bonus or incentive they anticipated and decide to change their job.
Not all clients and candidates are distracted by holidays and you have to make sure you are not the person distracted by the holidays. The most important number to increase is your sendout totals. Focus on booking more sendouts during the last quarter of this year and you will have a record quarter. (My definition of a sendout is a first interview between a client and candidate – either by phone or in person.)

Your last quarter also helps set up the first quarter of the following year, so it is important you stay focused and build momentum thru the end of this year. Monitor your stats, individual ratios and results achieved. You can and will have a record last quarter if you focus and implement these suggestions.
