I’ve been doing this [recruiting] for 26 years and have been running my own firm for twenty years. I’ve been a member of Pinnacle since 1998 and served two terms as President (2004-2008) and was honored with the “Honorary Lifetime Member” designation…..
This past summer I rode my bicycle 190 miles over two days to raise money for cancer research in the PanMass Challenge. My team was “Team Big Jon” in loving memory of a dear friend who passed away from kidney cancer in 2007. My team raised almost $100,000. 100% of individual donations go directly to the charity!
The ride itself was exhilarating. Entire towns in MA came out to cheer us on. When you see a ten year old girl with a big sign that says: “5 year survivor, Thank you!”, you can’t help but be moved and thrilled by the journey.
The preparation was a lot of training over the summer. During the season, I rode 2400 miles all in…..
I am so grateful to have found a profession that I love, that I’m good at, that enables me to earn a nice living…….when you see and hear of so much suffering (everyone knows somebody who has been touched by cancer), you count your blessings every single day. To do something selfless that takes you away from your normal life and concerns (and yes , the recruiting business) was just an extraordinary experience.
I hope to do the ride again in 2011.
