Blog on ERE in July and You Can Win an iPad

If you want to try your hand at blogging or if you have been blogging but want to reach a wider audience, July might be the month to give it a try. You can win yourself a pretty great prize for the effort.

If you blog on the ERE community in the month of July, you’ll have an opportunity to win your very own iPad touch or one of two Amazon gift cards for the runners-up. What do you have to blog about? Recruiting, talent acquistion, employer branding … it’s your choice.

Quality posts generate great discussions and comments and we wanted to highlight that this month. For more details, read through to find out more.

What will we be looking for?

High quality content that scores well with our audience of recruiters. We will be grading posts based on the following criteria:

  1. Pageviews
  4. Quality

The quality score is obviously the most subjective, so I’ve enlisted the help of our editorial staff to look at the quality of our posts. Todd Raphael (editor of ERE and the Journal of Corporate Recruiting Leadership), John Hollon (editor of TLNT) and Amybeth Hale (editor of The Fordyce Letter and The Source Newsletter) will be our panel of judges. We will be taking all of these factors into account to get the top blogger as well as the two runner-ups.

How many times can I/should I blog?

This is up to you. High quality posts with many comments and retweets get the best exposure because new comments automatically make that post rise to the top of our internal activity feed. Here’s what won’t work well though: spamming. Nobody likes or appreciates that. Don’t make me get mean.

Can I use content from my blog?

Sure. People do appreciate originality though (and it will help your pageviews, comment, and retweet score if you are driving traffic to your post on ERE).

Who can enter?

Almost anyone can participate. If you are an ERE employee or family member, you aren’t allowed to participate (darn). Also, if we can’t ship your prize to your country because the U.S. has some sort of export restriction on it or you live in a place that can only be reached by bush plane, then sorry. Otherwise, feel free to participate.

How do I start a blog on the ERE community?

If you don’t have an account, you can create one for free. Once you’ve created your account and logged in, all you have to do is go to and under the brown “Blogs” drop-down, you’ll see a link for Your Blog. You’ll see a tab for a new blog post and you can just start writing and posting away. And if you have any questions, you can let me know.

When will the winners be announced?

The winners will be announced Friday August 6th, 2010 on We will contact the winners at that time. Prizes not claimed within seven days will be forfeited to Lance Haun to the next best blogger until all awards are claimed.
