You can tell by the Twitter account of the Education Secretary in the United States that the education department is preparing for half the teachers in the United States to hit retirement age over the next 10 years.
Arne Duncan has stepped up his tweets about the potential approaching shortage of educators. The recruitment marketing campaign looks to be taking many forms, including:
- Promotion of the website teach.org. The site includes information on becoming a teacher; links to jobs; links to videos on Youtube; information on scholarships, and more.
- Facebook and Twitter posts.
- A Thunderclap to kick off next week. Explained briefly here, it’s a way of spreading the message (in this case, at 7 p.m. on November 21) at one time, by a large number of people who support a cause.
- Public service announcements. Politico says they’ll run on TV, radio, online, and in print.
Microsoft and State Farm are among the sponsors of the campaign.
