Mobile, at a glance:

According to the CTIA, there are now over 4.6 billion mobile subscribers on the planet. By comparison, there are only 1.2 billion PCs and only 1.3 billion landline users. At the end of 2009, the U.S. finally reached 285M mobile subscribers. Last year, 70 million U.S. mobile subscribers connected to the Internet, including the 41 million who carried "SmartPhones". Per Nielsen Research, subscribers are not only accessing the mobile web more than ever but also leveraging SMS (text messaging) more than voice calls. In 2009, SMS (text-messaging) traffic worldwide totaled a whopping 4.5 trillion. The biggest driver in the SMS traffic now is North America with 1.5 trillion messages sent in 2009. According to Tomi Ahonen, a leading mobile industry expert, SMS usage is expected to grow by 22% in 2010, to - 5.5 Trillion total SMS text messages sent globally.

Given the staggering data above, there's good reason to talk about mobile. So the question still remains: should employers really care about mobile? The short answer is yes. We all know that workforce has changed. Pressure on companies to provide work/life balance programs for employees, combined with advances in mobile technologies is increasing the number of mobile workers in the U.S. and around the world. Today's professional wants access to information on demand, on the go, anytime, and anywhere. Without a doubt, 2010 is perhaps one of the most exciting years for employers to be considering mobile recruitment solutions.
