FORUM GUIDELINES

The Electronic Recruiting Forum is a professional discussion list for business communications. As such, there are a number of guidelines that all messages must meet in order to be sent to the group's members.
  1. All messages must be "signed."
It is important to the members of the Electronic Recruiting Forum that they be able to identify the source of their information. All messages must be "signed" with your name, job title, and name of your company; this signature will be automatically included when you initially fill out the registration form on the website. If this information is not complete or is inaccurate, the forum moderator may be required to reject your messages! Also, if you have a business connection to a product or service mentioned in your post, this should be clear to anyone reading the message.

Please note that the use of aliases is not allowed on the ER Forum; we will only accept postings from users who we can reasonably determine are using real names, company names, and email addresses.

  2. Advertisements are not acceptable messages.
The members of the Forum turn to this resource for objective information from professionals in the field. This is not an invitation to solicit business or spam Electronic Recruiting Forum members. Please do not send messages regarding these products (no matter how appropriate they may be to the discussion at hand) unless there is a value in them to the list members other than self-promotion. The list moderator will make the final decision on acceptable postings of this nature, and strict guidelines are enforced.

An important corollary to the prohibition on advertisements: Please refrain from posting messages indicating that you or someone else you know are looking for work or highlighting your personal "resume." We recognize that many recruiters are out of a job these days, but unfortunately these types of posts fall into the category of solicitations, and thus we cannot allow them. Please feel free to make use of our recruiters' job board in your job search, however.

  3. Job Postings are not permitted.
In a forum almost entirely composed of recruiters, everyone has jobs to fill, and if everyone were to post them — chaos. For this reason, job postings are not allowed on the Forum.

If you have a job in the recruiting industry that needs to be filled, the Electronic Recruiting Exchange has created a recruiters' job board. Information on posting jobs on this page can be found on the post a job page.

  4. Post messages to the group, not to individuals.
Take a moment to consider whether your reply is appropriate for the entire list, or just the person you are replying to. If you are requesting a copy of more information, for example, you should use the "Email Author" link to email the message author directly instead of posting it to the whole list. If you post a message to an individual that's not useful to the rest of the group, the forum moderator may not approve your message.

At the same time, keep in mind that some questions or lists of resources are valuable for everyone! If you want clarification from the author of a message, or you have a resource that you would like to point out, share it with the rest of the Forum!

  5. Limit rehashing.
Please limit rehashing. While the moderator will strive to direct the conversation along appropriate paths, there is a tendency to restate issues and topics that have been "done to death" before, both on this Forum (as it grows) and elsewhere online. The moderator will attempt to point respondents to the source of information most appropriate to their needs rather than burden the entire list with a restatement of known issues.

  6. No attacks on a particular person or organization.
This is a professional resource and we all realize that e-mail is a medium in which it is easy to overreact; it does not support the visual cues we need to comprehend communication to any level of depth. This is where "flaming" arises and we would ask that you attempt to err on the side of moderation in your replies. We need to "get along" before we can maximize the value of this resource.
Please note that we will either not post messages that do not meet these guidelines or else remove the "offending" words and/or sentences from the message. If you have any questions about the Electronic Recruiting Forum, you can email the moderator, Jim Dalton, at jsdalton@ere.net.
