Lowe’s Home Improvements, improves career site with video.

posted by
Ernest Feiteira (44)

Recently Lowe’s career site added video vignettes for various positions in their Store, Corporate and Distribution business areas.  The career site home page starts with a welcoming message  and then invites candidates and visitors to select a virtual tour our or learn more about specific Store, Corporate and Distribution positions.

Video of Lowe’s greeter: http://ernestf.blip.tv/#906639

They are using Flash video to create these new features.  Each of  their three business areas incorporate a talking heads that delivers a brief message highlighting key skills and attributes that Lowe’s desires from the candidate.  The employee also briefly explains the mission for the department or function.

This will certainly help communicate the various opportunities at Lowe’s and provide a glimpse into some of the roles, I certainly learned more about how Lowe’s is structured and organized.  I feel a little more connected to the company and its people in some way.

However, it appears that they have overlooked a “bug” in the video, when you play the video for each specific position you actually get two audio streams, one of the employee talking about the position and a second stream of the home page greeter.  I’ve seen this bug for almost a week now and am a little surprised that it hasn’t been fixed. Some follow the 4D’s of web development, (Discovery, Design, Development, & Deploy) if so, the Deploy step includes testing and QA.
