Rumors of Death of Recruiting Greatly Exaggerated

posted by
Drew Brennan (8)

We have all heard it,  "Internet tools and strong Applicant Tracking Systems will drastically reduce the need for recruiters".  We might want to rethink this.

If anything, I believe that it has actually re-emphasized the importance of traditional recruiting..you know the type of recruiting where hard to find, desirable candidates are discovered through age-old techniques of research, networking and referrals.

It seemed as if up until recently, clients were starting to view recruiters as commodities with cost being a primary driver as opposed to service and value.  There are signs that this is beginning to change with more clients valuing the relationships with their top-performing recruiters.

Strong client-recruiter relationships based on trust and dependable performance work to the long term benefit of both client and recruiter.

has been going on for so long -- over decades.. Remember the Trade mags that allow companies to post jobs.. well they were going to put us out of business,

Of course so was the Internet and job boards. Gee, that didn't affect my business.. did it yours?

The Fad in the 80's was the outsourcing and back office companies, they definitely were going to put staffing out of business as well.

Wonder if the phone was going to do it in the day of lore..

Geez, there will always be a new gadget.. tool and such like.. but we are still in business and going strong.. in fact the industry is growing in leaps and bounds.. Largest industry in the Service related businesses..

The way I see it - the personal Touch - no computer can Ever replicate the value of person to person contact in recruiting.. especially dealing with one of the most important aspects of a person's life.. their career.
