When I heard ERE bought Fordyce Letter as a 3rd party agency owner I was very excited. Then when they announced that the new website would have content I thought to myself here we go, finally more 3rd party content on ERE.
Sadly I was disappointed to find the content is two years old and the only way to get fresh material is through a printed version. I'm ashamed to admit on the 3rd party side my brethren are slightly behind on the technology and process side. Masters of sales techniques, creative and more aggressive then our corporate cousins... but some of us actually embrace technology. We go to websites for FRESH content and like our content delivered electronically! I hope this is only a short term thing and that soon the Fordyce Letter content and community is fully integrated within the innovative ERE model!

The Fordyce Letter Online

Hi Mo, I appreciate your comments and concerns with respect to the Fordyce Letter Website.
We gave a lot of thought and had a lot of conversations surrounding exactly what it is you are referring to when you say “content is two years old and the only way to get fresh material is through a printed version.” However, we did not think at all that anyone would be upset with the fact that we are putting archives of past articles onto the site. We worried about those who subscribe to the Fordyce Letter and would they be upset that we would be putting information that they have paid for in the past up on the site for free so that everyone could have access.
The good thing about the Fordyce Letter is that you can get it electronically. Lots of recruiters do and it is this newsletter that is at the heart of the Fordyce Letter. It has been this way for a very long time. At $189 bucks a year, I can safely say, it’s a bargain. I bet most subscribers would agree.
I’m writing on the site everyday about stuff that interests me and things that I think may help third party recruiters. It can be tough to always satisfy everyone all of the time and I don’t go home at the end of the day ever thinking that today was the day everyone was happy with the things I did, It helps me sleep.
Over the next few months, the Fordyce Letter Blog will have new features – small features, the kinds of features that will create a different side to the Fordyce Letter Brand.
So far there is the Newsletter, The Fordyce Forum in June and the very new Fordyce Letter website
Mo, If you are at all interested and have helpful insight into the business, I would love to talk to you about contributing from time to time to the Fordyce Letter Blog. And please know I am happy that you made your opinion known. It helps.
Feedback

Jason thanks for asking for feedback - we can chat early next week but in summary the website provides little value.
A couple quick observations and honestly i have not spent enough time for a thorough analysis 1) usability, the interface was not intuitive 2) stickyness - really have no reason to return 3) fresh material - outside your blog why would anyone return to the website?
In summary i think ere is amazing, why not just leverage the ere platform and combine the content? Obviously the paying subscribers should continue to get the premium content but i'd suggest giving away anythign 3 months old or 6 months. 2 years is too old and the archieves are difficult to navigate and search.
Also apologize and stand corrected - didn't know there was an electronic letter option - didn't see it clearly on the site or in the check out option.
just my 2 cents

I used to read the tax letters when I was a kid (whats a son of a CPA with complulsive reading issues to do when stuck at the office on a Saturday?)
Most magazines do not give away their archives on their websites- they know that people with interests in specific issues will often pay for them, so the back books are a revenue source.
I think ERE is on the right track by bifurcating TPR with Fordyce and Corp Recruiting with ERE + a little mixing between the two. I backed that thought with $$$ in sponsoring the website and I think anything with Jason and David behind it is going to be a good effort.
Mo you have some good points about navigation and maybe stickiness too- my preference would be a large connection to Fordyce on the ERE front page. It will take a few years, a few Fordyce Forums, and steady work to make it a big success, but nothing valuable comes easy. These guys will listen and respond, as they have already started to do.
I like it

I'm not a subscriber yet, but I have to say that I probably will soon. I stumbled onto the archives a few weeks ago, and geek that I am, I read them all! Yes, they are two years old, but there is a goldmine of information there, and this business really doesn't change that much in a two year period. Advice that worked back then, certainly could add value now.
I think it's a great free resource that will likely entice those who spend some time browsing the archives to consider subscribing. I'll be the first to admit that if they only waited a few months before posting them, that I'd just wait, rather than subscribe.
Pam

Martin, Pam thanks for the comments - I agree with what you're saying Martin and not trying to complain just want more! And Pam you have much more patience then i do, i'll try to spend time going through the archieves see what i discover - curious if any there is one in particular that stands out.

If I complain about everything not being free and 30-minute fresh, will I get a free subscription too?
Actually, wait, I'm a subcriber already, and I have been for years. How about a 50% discount then.
Only half kidding.
