Taleo acquires Vurv

posted by

Since getting started in this industry over 10 years ago, I've been amazed by the never-ending stream of companies trying to build better mousetraps in the Talent Management (aka Applicant Tracking) space.

I understand why it's a tempting niche - customers routinely report that they are unhappy with their existing software and want better alternatives, but somehow the profits never seem to arrive for most.  Industry watchers have been predicting consolidation for years.

Today, Taleo (profile; site) announced that they acquired Vurv Technology(profile; site) for $128.8 million in cash & stock.  The deal combines two of the strongest players in the space, so the consolidation is finally underway - at least among the major players.

For the record, Jason Corsello called this last week.  Corsello: 1, Anonymous cowards in the comments: 0.

Interesting Challenge
posted 5/6/2008 at 8:18 a.m. PT by Simon Evans

We are a current Vurv user however we are on an old version. I have been meeting with Vurv to discuss upgrading to the new platform (plus they are strong arming us off of the old platform they have no desire to support long term). With the Taleo acquisition and knowing the time it takes to complete technology projects at this bank I wonder what product I would end up with?

Any Taleo users out there with thoughts on the merits of that product versus Vurv? I assume Taleo will become the dominant fucntionaility now?

user friendly - ATS
posted 5/7/2008 at 6:09 a.m. PT by Raquel Olsen

Our company uses Taleo on a Global basis and we find it difficult to get Taleo to do any customization to the system. Hence, it makes it a bit difficult for the recruiting team to do their job efficiently in comparison to other ATS systems. I would be inserted to hear how effectively other companies are doing with the system and how efficiently the system is for them. Thus far, we have not found Taleo to be user friendly for Recruiters or hiring managers.

Hi all - came across your comments and we use Taleo here at our company. I have used other ATS systems and have used Taleo at 2 other companies and I find Taleo to be the best compared to others I have used. We are a large and reputable financial institutional and we are leading the way in some of our global reporting initiatives. Taleo has been customized for us and we have been able to do extensive reporting due to the use of Taleo. Sourcing the Taleo database is still cumbersome and not pleasant. It all depends on what your group/dept/org is seeking and what are the expectations of any ATS you plan to implement are. As Taleo becomes more "sophisticated" and more enhanced, it is more challenging to get a new user trained and comfortable with the system.
