Hiring Athletes?

posted by
Kristin Gissaro (106)

I came across a site last night called TheCorporatePlaybook.com.

I was very impressed with this concept. It is a site for current or alumni student athletes to post their profiles/resume/achievements with the hopes of being discovered by employers.

It's kind of a reverse job board, more like a candidate board, or a  candidate database.

I thought this is a great way to recruit the next generation as they enter the workforce.

Why Athletes? The site mentions that most athletes are known for specific characteristics that can easily transfer into the working world. These include: Mental Toughness, Self Confidence, Optimistic and Positive Attitude, Ability to Overcome Failure and Disappointment, Control over Negative Emotions, Highly Motivated and Committed, Concentration and Focus, and Diversity.

Has anyone tried the site? Has anyone seen these characteristics come through in Athletes that you've hired?

Hiring Athletes? Yes go to www.thecorporateplaybook.com

Hi Kristin,

In response to your posting on The Corporate Playbook.
My company Safire Concierge Inc. works with many high level Corporate companies in creating unique hospitality events for their clients, as well as top sales performers. Often I come across high level business professionals looking for quality employees. I have directed all of them to thecorporateplaybook.com to find their ideal candidate. They love the resource and many have hired these former Athletes. The comment I have heard most often was how impressed they were by the caliber of the candidates they found from The Corporate Playbook.

As a former Marathon Runner myself, I understand the mental characteristics an athlete has to have in order to handle the individual stress, pressures and challenges faced in competition. Athletes have to have the mental toughness and confidence to go put themselves out there in front of a large group of people. They are not afraid of failure and hard work. Most athletes work in a team environment and it is the win of entire group that is important. Therefore, they learn to support each other on a daily basis and work together.

What better qualities can you ask for in a employee?
I highly recommend The Corporate Playbook.

Hiring Athletes is the Best Way to Go!

Hi Kristin,

My company, Guardian Life Insurance Company of America is a Premiere Sponsor with The Corporate Playbook and has been using their system for the last 6 months. I have personally been working with their CEO, Chad Smith in getting this system integrated into my national agencies. This company is so easy to work with and the caliber of candidates is like nothing I have ever seen. So many athletes are added to the site each and every week that no matter when you do your searches, different athletes show up each time.

Having worked in NCAA athletics for 6 years, I know what kind of employees and team players former athletes can be. I will take a candidate like that fresh off a college campus any day of the week!!!!! Athletes have the characteristics that companies of all shapes and sizes look for: determination, ethics, hard work, knowledge, skill and an all around team player mentality. Also, with the relationships The Corporate Playbook have, we have been able to interview former athlete candidates who have been in the workforce for 10 years and are just looking for a change.

I would hands down recommend this site to any recruiter looking to hire college athletes or to any former athlete looking to find a new and different profession.
