If you aren’t one of the nearly 300 people headed to New York City in a few days for Monday’s #socialrecruiting summit, you aren’t totally out of luck. As has become standard for ERE events, we will be streaming the event live here on the ERE.net homepage for free for those of you who can’t be in attendance.

Social media is rapidly becoming more than just another tool in a recruiter’s toolbox — it’s an important part of the future of the talent acquisition profession. The goal the summit is to have an industry conversation about these tools, and talk about tactics and strategies that are already in the field and working, not pie-in-the-sky ideas. And even if you can’t make it, you can still participate in that discussion.

The stream will take place on the top of the ERE.net homepage through Ustream. There is nothing that you will need to download; just come to the site on Monday morning, shortly before we kick off the event at 9:30 a.m. ET, and you will see the box. You just need to click the play button and you will be all set. There is also a chat component there, so you can talk to others watching the stream, and even those in attendance in New York.

You will also want to check out Twitter for more great conversation from the event by following the #socialrecruiting hashtag and the @socrecruiting handle. The event in June featured over 1,500 tweets sent that day alone, mostly from those in attendance, so this is another great way to join the conversation even if you can’t make it to New York.

As I mentioned, the day starts at 9:30 a.m. ET as our summit chair Laurie Ruettimann kicks off the day, and introduces our keynote speaker Fred Wilson at 10:00 a.m. ET. Fred is the venture capitalist behind many of the names you know on the Internet such as Twitter, Indeed, del.icio.us, and many others. From there the day, which goes through 5:15, will feature sessions led by recruiters who have actually already proved success using social recruiting tactics in their recruiting strategy. Check out the full agenda here.

So make sure to clear your calendar for Monday, as this is certainly something you won’t want to miss. And if you are in and around the NY area or can get there on Monday, there are still (at least as I post this) a few tickets left to attend.

We just finalized the details for our 6th annual Recruiting Excellence Awards program, and we are now accepting applications. This is your chance to share how your recruiting success is helping your business — and in many cases furthering the recruiting profession. We are currently accepting applications in nine categories, and the winners will be announced at our annual gala ceremony & dinner in San Diego on March 15. Get all of the details and start your application at www.ereawards.com. Also, Todd Raphael has a copy of DaVita’s (successful!) application from last year. Shoot him an email at todd@ere.net if you want him to send it to you.

Speaking of San Diego in March, the awards ceremony & dinner will be taking place in San Diego in conjunction with the 10th annual spring ERE Expo conference. This year’s event will feature a brand new speaker faculty, highlighted by several speakers who are making their ERE Expo speaking debut. And make sure to register by October 30, to take advantage of the $500 early bird discount.

If you are looking for something sooner, we are just about 1/3 of the way to selling out the next #socialrecruiting summit taking place in New York City on November 16. If you are already using or considering using social media tools in your recruitment strategy, then join the conversation taking place at this one-of-a-kind recruiting industry event, the follow up to the first summit which sold out this past June.

On Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. ET over on our sister site, Fordyce TV returns with a brand new episode. If you are on the search and placement side of the business, you won’t want to miss Neil Lebovits share his Internet marketing secrets for recruiters. Grab a few easy tips to keep your name in the forefront of your candidates’ minds without making update calls.

Activity is picking up on jobs.ere.net, with over 20 jobs posted in the past week. If you are looking for your next opportunity, make sure to check back often. You can also follow job postings in the ERE Daily email newsletter, and on Twitter by following @recruiting_jobs. And if you are looking to add a recruiter to your team, there is no better place to post the position than on ERE’s job board.

Last week, we added several new sessions to the upcoming #socialrecruiting summit agenda including Cindy Nicola from Electronic Arts, Susan Burns and a very exciting keynote address led by Fred Wilson, the venture capitalist behind many of the names you know on the Internet like Twitter, Indeed, del.icio.us, and many others. The follow up to our first summit which sold out last June, will take place in New York City on Monday, November 16. There are only a limited number of spaces available so make sure to reserve your spot soon.
If you missed the news last week, we just announced the 10th annual ERE Expo 2010 Spring conference. The agenda is starting to come together, and once again will feature a brand new panel of speakers, many of which you have never seen present at an ERE Expo conference. And make sure to register by Friday to take advantage of the $600 early bird discount. Check out more about the conference at www.ereexpo.com.

Speaking of events, tickets are going fast for the next #socialrecruiting summit, taking place in New York City on November 16. Last week we also added another exciting session to the agenda, Electronic Arts’ VP and Global Head of Talent Acquisition Cindy Nicola who will be talking about how social networking is at the heart of CRM.

Think you’ve seen and heard it all? Maybe not. On Tuesday, Wendell Williams writes about a new way to select employees that he says is “a shining example of pure nonsense.”

This week is pretty simple, with much of the ERE staff joining hundreds of recruiters in south Florida for the annual Fall ERE Expo conference. Find out if you’re ready: John Elliott of the healthcare organization Dartmouth-Hitchcock will have an exercise you can do this week. Todd Raphael uses some new technology were trying out to interview Jeremy Eskenazi about what’s going to happen to laid-off recruiters as hiring picks up. And David Szary writes about building “pipelines.” Everyone talks about them, but everyone’s got a different definition.

ERE Expo 2009 Fall is just over a week away. I hope to meet you personally in FL, but if you aren’t able to make the trip, you aren’t totally out of luck!
We are looking for speakers for our Spring ERE Expo conference in San Diego. Really cutting-edge corporate recruiting folks. If that is you or if you have a recommendation, let Todd know. Todd is also always on the lookout for writers for the Journal of Corporate Recruiting Leadership, corporate recruiting leaders, ideally at medium or large companies, since that’s who the readers are.

We’re getting going on the 2010 Recruiting Excellence Awards, which will take place in San Diego in conjunction with the Spring Expo.
We’ve got a number of though-provoking and useful articles coming up on the site. You’ll hear what Maureen Sharib has to say about talking vs. listening, and what a naked baby has to do with it. Jeremy Eskenazi’s going to weigh in on the ethical debate about whether it’s appropriate to only hire passive candidates, and ignore the unemployed.

Now on to the October issue, where Erin Peterson, from Hewitt, is currently working on an article about how the company has redone its approach to hiring Hewitt employees. It is changing its branding, website, interviews, assessments, and candidate/manager surveys. Susan Burns is also working on an article about social media recruiting. John Elliott is writing about how executive compensation is changing and what that means to recruiting.
There is no ERE webinar this week, but you can sign up for next week’s free webinar on Adjusting Talent Acquisition to a Changing Operations Model, led by Robin Ritter from General Mills and Kristy Sidlar from FutureStep.

Our Editor-In-Chief Todd Raphael is working on the September issue of the Journal of Corporate Recruiting Leadership. All of the articles have come in and he’s just working on some minor cleanup and the layout/graphics with our designer Barbara. We’re thinking this may be the best issue of the publication so far. We’ve got Richard Newsom from Fifth Third Bank, talking about how the company boiled down their recruiting metrics to a single “stock price” measure. John Zappe is covering customer services issues with recruiting technology. Lisa Edwards is writing about whether recruiting A-players really pays off. Keith Halperin proposes a new recruiting model. And more. So subscribe before August 15 to make sure this is your first issue. In addition, the issue will be distributed for free to all attendees at the upcoming ERE Expo 2009 Fall conference in Hollywood, FL.

Speaking of the Expo, make sure you register before August 7 to get the $200 early bird rate. In addition, ERE subscribers can save an additional $200 by using product code FL09ERE. If you haven’t seen the agenda featuring over 20 corporate recruiters, practitioners, and thought leaders, check it out now.

There are still a few weeks to take advantage of $25 job postings on EREjobs. If you are looking to add to your team, your posting will not only be displayed on the site for 30 days, but also in the ERE Daily email newsletter, the ERE homepage, and through the @recruiting_jobs feed on Twitter. And if you are looking for your next opportunity, check the site often and follow the Twitter feed.

Friday is the last chance to take advantage of the ERE Expo 2009 Fall early bird discount. This year’s event, returning to the Westin Diplomat Resort & Spa in Hollywood, FL from September 9 – 11 features presentations from Adidas, Wal-Mart, Microsoft, American Cancer Society, Fifth Third Bank, and many more.
We’re going to add a new session to our Fall Expo agenda. It’s going to be a closing session on social media — an all-star panel including DaVita, Sodexo, Adidas, and others, moderated by Susan Burns. It’s just one more of a group of sessions we’re having on the topic, including one by Marvin Smith from Microsoft, a couple of legal sessions, a presentation on developing a social-media recruiting strategy, and more.

Also this week, our Editor-in-Chief Todd Raphael talks to Alan Strauss, who’s doing a talent-acquisition project for Lockheed Martin and is well-connected in the D.C.-area corporate recruiting community, about bringing in “A-players” to corporations; what the best recruiters are doing to keep their jobs; and what sorts of questions recruiters should be asking their customers to become more influential and strategic.

There have been 12 new postings during the past week on our recruiting job board. If you are looking for a new opportunity make sure to check it regularly and also follow new postings on Twitter at @recruiting_jobs.

There will be no Fordyce TV this week, but we will resume again on June 30 with Jeff Kaye. However, if you are on the search and placement side of the business and weren’t able to make it to Las Vegas a few weeks ago for the third annual Fordyce Forum conference, you can still check out the slides of the presentations on our post-conference site. And save the date now, as the fourth annual Fordyce Forum will take place June 9 – 11, 2010 back in Las Vegas, so stay tuned for more info on that in the next few weeks.

Last Monday, I and 225 of my closest friends, and thousands more at home participated in the first ever Social Recruiting Summit at the Googleplex in Mountain View, CA. The event was a huge success where the discussion happened onsite, online, and throughout the social media world. Over 1200 tweets were sent out on Twitter throughout that day alone using the #socialrecruiting hashtag. If you missed any of the sessions, several of them are available here to view. Also check out this video that our chairperson Susan Burns and ERE’s production manager Brendan Shields put together on the Evolution of Recruiting.

Remember, you can meet and network with others in the recruiting industry not just on our own community site, but also through Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter.

Time is running out to secure the early bird discount for ERE Expo 2009 Fall taking place in Hollywood, FL from September 9 – 11. Make sure you register by July 3 to receive the $300 early bird discount, and if you are an ERE subscriber, make sure to use product code FL09ERE to save an additional $200. The agenda features over 20 speakers touching on topics such as social recruiting, onboarding, metrics, employer branding and much more. View the full agenda here or download the conference brochure.

There are currently over 15 recruiting positions posted in the past week on erejobs. If you are looking for your next opportunity, activity has been picking up on the board over the past few weeks so make sure to check the site regularly, or you can also follow @recruiting_jobs on Twitter. And if you are looking to add to your team, remember that 30 day postings are only $25 through August 1, so post your recruiting and HR positions today.

Have a great week, and feel free to leave any questions in the comments below.

Earlier this week, I and 224 of my closest friends attended the first ever Social Recruiting Summit at the Google HQ in Mountain View, CA. We were also joined by thousands of you who caught the live stream in your office and at home.

If you missed any of the sessions, several of them have been archived here.

Also check out this video put together by our chairperson Susan Burns and ERE’s Production Manager Brendan Shields, which kicked off the summit. The video tracks the evolution of the recruiting profession and the tools available to our industry from its primitive beginning to where we now stand. We don’t know what’s next, but we do know it isn’t too far away.
