Big Tech, Social Media Companies Say Ireland’s Where the Jobs Are

Make IT in IrelandIT and other employees not interested in Nashville [1], Austin [2], Detroit [3], or even Yukon [4] might want to take a look at Ireland.

Certainly, Facebook, Google, Microsoft, and Twitter would like them to. Those firms are all involved in a push to get people from outside Ireland to move to the Emerald Isle as its tech sector grows fast and its pool of skilled employees grows not fast enough.

Zartis [5], a recruiting technology company, is handling a new website, “Make IT in Ireland, [6]” set up as part of the effort. Zartis’s CEO John Dennehy says that “Ireland — known for its high emigration rate — has become a much more multicultural society. The number of non-Irish nationals living in the country doubled from 5.8 percent of the population in 2002 to 12 percent today. Many of them are working in Ireland’s tech sector, which employs 74,000 people directly and some 200,000 people indirectly.”

Dennehy says the “skills in strongest demand include software developers, online marketing experts, business analysts, and multilingual staff in sales, support, and customer service.” There are about 4,500 of these jobs open.

That “Make IT in Ireland” site has information on working in Ireland [7], about Ireland in general [8], and frequently asked questions [9].

Not surprisingly, particularly given the companies involved, there’s a Facebook page [10], Twitter page [11], and Google+ page [12].
