Jim,

As for medicare eligibility, according to the WSJ, the unfunded liabilities for this program is $74 TRILLION. Adding in Social Security and the liability is over $105 TRILLION. Deficits are projected to skyrocket to to near $20 TRILLION.

From what I understand this bill will increase my families annual insurance by as much as $3k.

Candidly, other than to feel like this story doesn't end well, this is all beyond my limited comprehension. Maybe the sky really is falling this time. We ignore Chicken Little at our own risk.

Are there any ideas on what effect the lowering the Medicare eligibility date to 55 years will have on the recruiting industry? My guess is that it would be a real boon for both full-time and staffing recruiters alike. The ability for people to be able to retire in their fifties could open the door to replacement and/or promotions as well as giving people over 55 the flexibility to work inside the temporary staffing industry without the fear of losing their insurance.

Stimulus on Steroids....RPO for the failing enterprise

The Spire Corporation, a solar panel manufacturer in Otisville, New York recently laid off 80 people; outsourcing the labor to Stimulus Package beneficiary UNICOR, Federal Prison Industry, Inc., a new concept in RPO staffing, providing very cheap federal prison inmates, to replace the recently terminated private sector labor at wages ranging between $.023 and $1.18 per hour. What a deal ! Who needs visas sponsored talent or illegal aliens for cheap labor?

Completely agree with Eric...the gov't needs to stick to the basics and not further muck things up for business, especially for small business.

Today's example of gross ineptitude by the gov't in managing our money...the PR firm that worked for the Clintons received $6MM in Stimulus money for jobs and the end result..? A whole 3 (three?!) jobs created or saved - for $6MM?!

As badly as the recruiting business has been hammered by the economy this past year, maybe all of us third-party firms should be filing for Stimulus hand-outs? (Since, per the above, the gov't is obviously just giving it away...I promise that, with $6MM, I could create more than 3 jobs!)

sorry Sal, but giving employers incentives to hire is a foolish gimmick. have been in business for 13 years. every year taking on new employees looks less and less attractive. hiring full-time employees puts you at the mercy of the health insurance system, the unemployment insurance system and state local and federal governments.

these systems are all rigged to crush small businesses. If you want to solve this problem, you need to reorient government's role to nurture small-business with great customer service and user-friendliness.

the government should be solving fundamental problems not throwing other people's money around for posturing.
