I really liked your article Kevin. The new world you describe is exactly the world our company has been operating in for years as a supplier to the automotive industry. Drastic and unrelenting change is the norm for us and we are conditioned to react with lightning speed. We had to throw out the standard "HR Playbook" 15 years ago. Thanks

Good point, Deborah. This made me think of a recent New Yourker article (http://archives.newyorker.com/?i=2009-10-26#folio=074) which described how a large number of Chinese workers are able to quickly adapt to changing circumstances. Of course, the typical Chinese worker doesn't have as much to lose as the typical American worker when major changes are made. Be that as it may, we should carefully consider developing and enhancing our recruiting skills which can't be eliminated, automated, or outsourced, instead of crying in our beers for the good old days....

Great post! What scares me is that I sense everyone is waiting for it to go back to the "old" normal. I believe we need to lead differently in this new "unthinkable" world and get comfortable with learning/adapting as we journey and fail and move forward.
