Madeline gets at important things in this article. Implementing a technical talent acquisition system creates an opportunity for organizations to look at their whole onboarding process from acquisition to accommodation to assimilation to acceleration.

One of the biggest issues in many onboarding processes is a disconnect between recruiting, orienting and managing. In our brand new book, "Onboarding - How to Get Your New Employees Up to Speed in Half the Time", we suggest a Total Onboarding Program to integrate those steps. (Summary available for download at http://www.primegenesis.com).

Net, use the implementation of a technical talent acquisition system as a catalyst for integrating all the steps of your onboarding process.

Excellent article Madeline, I was particularly impressed with your comments about the importance of integration with both internal & external systems and how this is critical for the success of the application.

But the biggest and most often overlooked challenge is certainly selecting a vendor that's the “right cultural fit”. Companies are quick to choose a brand name, lowest price, or go for features/functions over service than to regard the vendor as a true business partner and look for long-term value. Finding a vendor that's a good cultural fit, and that approaches the implementation as a partner is the key to successful roll-out, user adoption, and lasting relationship. This challenge is often aggravated by hungry vendors that over promise and under deliver, and I suspect that's the case with some of those installations that took so long to roll out.
