Howard-if everyone did what you suggest we'd have a smaller, less joyfilled world.
I say, life is short and enjoy everyday like it was you last day on earth-it might just be.
Joy and happiness to all!

Howard -
You summed it up pretty well.
Except I would consider a used Buick at half the price
of the imports and almost as good gas mileage with a V6.
And now it bumpted Lexus out of 1st place (14 years running) as the lowest frequency of repair (1.2 problems in 3 years). Of course with the average owner 70, they probably forgot some of the problems they had, but my Park Ave gets 24 around town - and I save enough to feed the 6 horses incase it breaks down.

I do everything else you suggested. Lost 35 # in 2 mos
power walking, to my High School weight w/o dieting too much. Life can be good. There is indeed biz out there -
made 2 good ones this week. OK to run credit up between checks. Best,
Jon

Howard -
I love you!!
These are all great suggestions. I always love your articles anyway and have read them for many years.

I have one thing to add to #11. Go to your local library, get a library card, and use it. You know, like you did when you were a kid. I started doing this a few months ago and have been able to find every book I've been interested in and MORE. Besides, it's a wonderful and relaxing place to visit.
Keep up the good work, Howard.

Thanks Howard, Great tips here! I think that despite all of the bad news a lot of good things are coming out now in terms of people learning that money is not the root of all evil, but rather the "love of money" (greed) is. Many of us are now prioritizing what is truly important in our lives (Family, friends, spirituality, etc...) and reassessing our value system. It's also a chance for us to "pay it forward" in sharing our recruiting knowledge and expertise in helping others get back to work whom we normally wouldn't have the time for in a thriving economy.

Howard, Thanks for this article, and yes there is a Dave Ramsey hint to this, which is great. (He was bankrupt nearly 20 yrs ago, and he LEARNED HIS LESSON, is sharing his story and making an impact on people lives)

The real challenge is when the fruit is "hanging low" again, how will be the one's who will let there "ego" drive the decision related to your.. "CASH"...

Anyone ever in TEMECULA, CA lets drink some "cheap wine/wineries"..

Great article and good advice. There's plenty of things on that list that I'm doing or starting to.

#1 has long been of interest to me. I look good coffee but I'm not going to pay some ridiculous amount for the privilege of supporting fair trade. I always thought that the "fair trade" label on coffee, chocolates, etc. was a marketing ploy to justify the high price. Fair to whom and who decides what's fair? Shouldn't that be up to the customer? And yes, if I want to support Juan Valdez I'll send him a check myself. Of course when said things like that people would look at me like I was some ignorant, heartless creep.

Howard, looks like you've been reading David Bach and Dave Ramsey. I say grow your top-line first and the bottom will invariably look much better :)

P.S. The new milkshake breakfast (you know, the Starbucks coffee with whipped cream, a nice gob of caramel, and 14 tablespoons of sugar) of our industry is the 'low-cost' webinar :)

For number 4, consider getting rid of cable or satellite TV and put up an antenna and get basic channels free. News/weather information is available online and you can download or stream most TV over the internet without the commercials that are designed to get you to spend your money on things you don't need anyway.

I can also add number 13: Pay cash for what you do buy. If you don’t have the cash on hand, you can’t afford it. This keeps you out of debt and from paying that ridiculous interest.

Everything Howard said is accurate. I was gratified to see that Judy and I have applied almost all of them to our lives for several years. Cruises and expensive dinners out have been replaced by simpler things like walks, sharing meals when dining out modestly, and going for an occasional ice cream.

One thing is certain, I never know when/if my next sale is coming. And our lives reflect that uncertainty/fear.

"If you do not get what you want, it is time to crawl up through the organization to higher levels. Be pleasant. Be relentless."
Howard, I could not have given better phone sourcing
advice!

All kidding aside, this is one of the most valuable pieces of advice I've seen in a long time. EXACTLY what is needed at this time and it won't hurt anyone. A new day has dawned for all of us and the sooner one rushes towards that door that the golden sun is shining through the better off they're going to be in the long run.

Just my opinion of course.
