Everyone,

My name is Lorne Epstein and I am the CEO/Founder of Arlington Soho, the company that made InSide Job. I have been a recruiter for 13 years (you can google me if you wish) and know what you go through when sourcing candidates.

Thanks for the comments and I hope I can clear up a few of your concerns. I will start with Ryan at the top and work my way down.

Ryan, InSide Job is akin to LinkedIn in that we are building a network within Facebook of users (who adopt InSide Job) who can be found based on their job title, company they worked for (working, interviewed, aspire to work for, etc). So it’s way better than CareerBuilder. Imaging LinkedIn but with 250 million users and it costs you nothing to search for and contact anyone. We have a feedback system like EBay that allows users to rate each other so it encourages good behavior. We are going to build a tip jar so users can give money to each other for the help they receive.

There are no resumes or long job descriptions posted on InSide Job. No one asked about that but I wanted to clarify.

Debbie you are correct, it is for US only right now. I have gotten about a dozen folks from overseas asking me to make a version for their country. We have designed a great work around that will make InSide Job available to the entire world once we release version 2. I can't tell you how jacked I am about that.

We are now building version 2 and the deadline for its completion is early October. It will have a better user interface and have jobs post to Facebook’s newsfeed, our twitter account, and the users twitter account plus a few other cool things.

Jeremy, not sure why you got that error and you are not alone. It has happened before and could be a server issue. Let me assure you our version 2 will eliminate that problem and if it occurs again, just reload the page. Reloading the page should resolve the issue.

Brooke, I am not sure if career builder does that but you can post all of your jobs for free on InSide Job. American Greeting posted over 80 positions. It only takes a few seconds to post since we only need the company name, job title, and location. You can post the job with as many different job titles as you wish.

We are going to build a job import function in the future beyond version 2 of InSide Job. We have been asked by several companies if they can export their jobs from their CRM and import them to InSide Job. We will do this for sure and it’s down the road a bit.

Jeremy, again not sure why you are getting that error, but email me at Lorne@MyInSideJobs.com or you can call if you want to at 240-876-0276. I can walk you through it. We are always up for speaking to users and want to know what’s working and what’s not.

What FB page are you referring to? If you mean our Fan page, yea, we are busy and have not updated it.

And no we have not gone under! We are working hard to make version 2 awesome. I just got the first draft of the new graphic elements and they rock. We are going to give you a Google like search bar that covers our entire database.

John is correct. We currently have 5000 users since release in April 2009 and we are growing. And John is correct Jeremy. If your company is blocking FB you could get that error.

We need you to share the application with your friends and help us get our user base up. Click on the Invite Friends feature in the upper right hand corner. Once we have critical mass you are going to LOVE using it. We know we are small now, but so was most everything. You are just hearing about InSide Job before the rest of the world thanks to John and his coverage of what we did.

Thank you everyone for this discussion. I love to interact with our users and if any of you want to Beta test version 2 as its being built, let me know. My email again is Lorne@MyInSideJobs.com and you can friend me on Facebook at Lorne Epstein (the one with the picture of my wife kissing me!). Please pardon any grammar errors I have made in my reply.

Enjoy the day,

The company didn't go under; at least not in the 72 hours since I spoke with Lorne. The app is free and costs nothing to use.

The downside to the deal is that chicken and egg thing: For it to be a really useful tool, lots of people need to use it. The best way to get people to use it is to have lots of people using it.

I again checked the site. Still there, but you do need (obviously) to be a Facebook member. Is it possible, Jeremy, that your IT folks are blocking access to Facebook? That would be so last century, especially for a recruiter. But it can happen. Or if you are working offsite, is there something else blocking access?

it also worries me that it's been a very long time since Lorne (or whoever) has updated their FB page.

think this is a lost cause?
i won't lose hope though since you just now wrote a story on them, BUT my guess is they went under.

FriendRecruit still requires manual input. I believe Brooke is looking for a more automated solution.

Hi Brooke,
Yes there are a number of ways you can set up direct feeds into your Facebook Fan Page. One that I've been impressed with is FriendRecruit through Flash Point Social Media. If you want a contact over there, let me know. twitter.com/JenGreenfield

I'm looking to add more functionality to our corporate FB page by having direct feeds of job openings posted directly to our FB page. While I know Career Builder does this, it's exclusive to CareerBuilder postings..does anyone know how to accomplish this?

It might have been a momentary glitch, Jeremy. I just tried it and got right in without an error message.

Give it another try and if you still have problems, email me directly.

I've taken a look at this application and have come to the conclusion that this is for US Citizens only. Does anyone know if there is an application for Canadians?

This is no better than the CareerBuilder Facebook app and focuses entirely on active candidates. We're yet to see a Facebook app that people other than the most desperate of actives adopt.

For now, it's all about driving people to your company's careers Facebook page and building relationships from there.
