Kevin...very insightful article. I enjoyed reading it.

My two cents:

As recruiters, we need to be able to assess talent more accurately and efficiently in order to identify those who possess transferable skills into these new and emerging industries. Companies can no longer afford not to hire the best person to get the job done; it's just too critical in times like this. You may not get a second shot at it.

Executives: You need to look at the big picture when it comes to recruiting and make it an integral part of every strategic plan.

Recruiters: It's time for you to step up to the plate and add significant if not massive value. That's hard to do if you're not invited to the party (usually held in the C-Suite). Start making your case.

To ignore this new reality is to walk down the path of "obsolescence."

This may not be relevent to the above, but as a former practitioner, now retired, I was wondering what every happened to TQM. I am baffled as I see the giant corporations fall, and wonder did they not put TQM into practice? If so why did they fail so?

Kevin, I could not agree with you more. I think this article is a nice compliment to the one I posted on tuesday about the Apollo 11 program and its reliance on hiring for potential as opposed to experience.

Excellent article. I have literally spent millions and began a whole new career inside the context that is written here. Keenhire.com has morphed into Keentalent and we are targeting these exact industries in the exact locations, the key is we are dealing with the whole talent picture, well beyond the tush in the seat.

For recruitment leaders to make their mark, compete and drive revenues they need to FIRST develop themselves in new contexts, distinctions and in business in general. Recruitment IS strategy. Bravo!
