I think it honestly depends on the industry and your relationship with your boss AND what sort of personal information you post on your Facebook. I am Facebook friends with previous bosses and work associates from when I worked in the advertising industry. It was a very casual, fun and personable environment where work and personal very often intersected. However, in my new industry, which is much more corporate, I would not connect with my boss or fellow co-workers. My Facebook profile does not contain anything I would ever be embarrassed of, however, my work environment now has a completely different vibe to it. I keep work and personal very seperate. Its truly a judgement call on part of the individual. My advice in general with such a public application such as Facebook is: Regardless of who you allow to be friends and if your profile is set to public or private, what you display on the site is always at risk for exposure. NOTHING is private on the internet. Think twice about what image you portray online.
