This has become reality. Check out http://www.atlanta.jobs or http://www.cleveland.jobs. Their partnership with Direct Employers should have job boards and aggregators questioning their intent.

This does not surprise me. Indeed, I have been expecting it and have long encouraged Employ Media to do this. This is such an important issue for our industry.

I would hope, in the interest of fairness, that anyone who owns "___jobs.com" would be given the first opportunity to buy "___.jobs" for a reasonable price. Additionally, the domain's new owners should be required to build it out rather than simply sit on the domain and later resell it at a profit, as has been the case with so many dot-com TLDs.

Example: MarketingJobs.com should get first crack at Marketing.Jobs. A simple auction would be unfair to the jobseeker, given that the domain would go to the buyer with the deepest pockets -- not necessarily the one with the deepest commitment to the niche.

Don't you think?

With widespread opposition to this plan among job board owners and presumably employers, now is the ideal time for employ media to move on this while most folks are distracted with survival.

I wonder how susceptible SHRM is to the lure of cash... would it disregard its members interests?

Would employee media need to divorce itself from SHRM to make this plan happen? Could it?

SHRM members deserve to know.
