Kevin, you are right on the money here. Just look at the "Handicapped or Superhuman?" debates going on about the newest "bionic" prosthetic devices.

As a recruiter/HR professional, I'm seeing the time in the future when the question comes to us: "How human should this candidate be?" And then we'll have to define how much of one's body can be a replacement part and how much advantage or disadvantage does one bionic candidate have over the other, etc. E.g. can you discriminate against a normal human who can only lift 50 pounds when Byron over there had bionic shoulder replacements that now allow him to lift 150 pounds easily. Will our workplaces need to change to accommodate genetically superior humans (workstation formation, air space requirements, etc.)

Yes, it seems outlandish, but soon to come!

Human cloning? Good God man! I can't believe some of the things that gets posted on here.

It is bad enough that we continue to have this Global warming (Green) BS pushed down our throats but now we are talking about abandoning any resemblance of conscience.

The earth's temperature has gone up exactly .73 degrees over the last 100 years. Another "inconvenient Truth" that is missing from Al Gores book is the 100 million he has pocketed while flying around on his private jet perpetrating this hoax.

If you haven't already read "A whole new mind: why right-brainers will rule the future" by Daniel Pink, you might find it interesting. He discusses the trend of US jobs moving from a left-brained analytical work style to more of a right-brained creative focus, or at least a greater balance of the two.

Thank you for a thought-provoking article, Kevin. I see the radical decrease in the numbers of domestically-based recruiting and sourcing jobs that pay $30-$100k/yr in 2009 dollars based on the "Triple Play" of "eliminate, automate, or outsource" leading to the "Professional Sports Model" of a relatively small number of well-paid recruiters and sourcers performing highly-skilled work, often based on the "Solution Recruiting" or "Solution Sourcing Model".

Those that "get it" may do quite well; those that don't should probably retrain for a new career.

Most of us have already experienced this as it is an ever ongoing process. For example, when I first entered the business the only way to get a resume to someone was via paper (mailed or hand delivered), then came the FAX machine - what a wonderful invention, then the floppy disc, then came email, and ..........

It's called progress. There will always be careers and positions that disappear and new ones will be created. This is not a new revelation, we always have to be ready, stay ahead of the curve, flow with the change or get left in the dust.

"One day a hiring manager will approach you with the request to go find someone with a skill set that you have never heard of. How would you approach that? Are you ready for tomorrow?"

I'd ask where these skills are being used as we speak and then I'd go into those companies/sectors and mine them.

Or are you asking something else?
