John - you're reading about the past, not the future! That's what accountants do. We're starting to hear on a regular basis that companies are getting their hiring forecasts together getting ready for the multiple economic stimulus packages being proposed. Assuming they come together you'll see a massive increase in hiring. I believe reporting about the past is irrelevant. Looking at the future is where the action will be. So get ready to move forward. Predictive indicators are just that, and the labor report lags economic trends by 3-6 months. The stock market is a predictive indicator and if you look at those companies whose stocks are rising, you'll also see they're posting more ads. If there is stock is rising, but they're not posting ads, take a wait and see attitude. If the stock is falling, run!
