I have worked in recruitment now for about 12 years. Fair enough that I recruit in a very specialised area Health which is pretty much recession proof. However when I look around and see Recruiters taking short cuts and really just focusing on the Dollar value I am reasonably appalled. The Dollar value is very important however I believe implicitly that if you take care of the relationship with client and candidate then the Dollars will take care of themselves.

Thank you, Kevin. I think there is an unspoken presumption that the reader will not be soon out of a job; I can't speak to that. I can speak to the fact that whatever recruiting functions are low-touch, low-value add should be eliminated, automated, or outsourced (in that order). Organizations should get rid of the "grunt" work and keep the “guru” work. If the reader is currently doing mainly "grunt" work, I would suggest making a rapid transition to high-touch, high-value add functions or considering a new line of work.

Cheers,
