A friendly and clever way to remind anyone involved in hiring that we perhaps need to move with the times! Most of us can admit to being guilty of some of these items on the list however the difference is that some of us choose to learn, progress and evolve whilst others keep continuing to make the same bad hiring decisions.

Often the hiring process is doomed before it is even begun, evidenced by Lou’s 10 steps.

I am continually amazed by those businesses and agencies that continue to complain of the talent shortage yet their hiring process is pretty much built around Lou’s 10 great ways to make bad hiring decisions.

My greatest frustration and that of most talented people I know are those articulated in point 4 – the focus on hiring someone who has done the exact same job before. This focus impacts on every other step in the hiring process and does nothing other than ensure you close your doors to talent. Rather ironic really.

Six Figures, www.sixfigures.com.au is a premium job site launched in Australia this year to pioneer change in sourcing talent for the market segment of high salary earners. Designed to bring, integrity, information sharing, transparency, two way communications and hiring on potential into play, we are slowly seeing businesses move with the times – however there is still a long way to go.

Like Lou, what amazes me is that so many companies follow these 10 steps then expect different results – the definition of insanity so they say.

Great article! No one intends to make bad hiring decisions, but you point out how easily it happens. I see it every day in speaking with my prospective clients, the times I shake my head are when they recognize they are making bad decisions and yet they don't change their ways. #2, #3, #4 and #8 are generally the culprits that result in the bad decision.

A crisp, tongue-in-cheek way of listing some of the worst mistakes we keep making while hiring. The current state of the economy in South Asia in particular has resulted in some very brisk hiring across industry segments. It is not surprising that in the game of getting the numbers in, most organizations, hiring managers and recruiters are happily making all the mistakes that Lou has listed.
