[...] 10 Ways to Supercharge Your Search for Candidates by Krista Bradford Dec 4, 2007 The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines research as a “careful or diligent search,” a “studious inquiry or examination,” and “the collecting of information about a particular subject.” Why is it, then, that most executive search and recruiting professionals so often think of research as mere “name generation?” “Name gen” is rarely careful, diligent, or studious. More often, it involves a relatively haphazard scooping up of names and titles, willy-nilly. And that leads to a “kiss every frog” approach to recruiting in order to find your prince.
Glenn,

Thanks for the kudos and I will cite other companies in future examples, I promise. For those who didn't quite figure it out . . .I was making a 'game' of the links, to get people to guess what all of the Microsoft people had in common (besides Microsoft).

(They are all alumni of another great tech company, DEC.)

Cheers,

Krista, you're fabulous and so's this article, but my retention colleagues in HR asked me, did she have to make *all* the people links to Microsoft talent? Next time, spread the wealth and show some lovely links to senior engineers at other companies like http://domino.research.ibm.com/comm/pr.nsf/pages/researchers.html?Open&count=5000

But no worries: we get more than our fair share of top engineers!
