Bloggers and others who write articles about recruiting-related issues and who want to drive more traffic to their sites and improve their search engine rankings should sign up as authors at the free Recruiting Blogswap http://www.RecruitingBlogswap.com. Those who are looking for more content for their sites and to improve their search engine rankings should sign up at the same place as publishers. You can be both an author and a publisher.

These are great points. I have been trying to take the ideas that I have found to create a blog for my professional career. I have even received many comments in interviews that candidates read my blog before coming in. In fact, more of them read my blog than going to our actual website, which says a lot about what people are interested in reading when they are looking into a new organization that they have never heard of.

I certainly am trying to make mine a very useful blog to not only my network, but potential candidates for my organization as well as for my professional career.

Let me know what you think.

A blog may indicate a number of things like passion, knowledge, insightfulness, and capability - but it will not predict whether someone will be a great manager, fit into the culture of an organization, or be able to deal with things outside the blog content. In conjunction with references, observation, and other triangulating factors - yes, it is an indicator.

Also consider the fact that not everyone is a great writer, some may have learning disabilities, some may not have access to the technology - this does not mean that they cannnot perform in a context of a particular position.

Like other mechanisms, a blog should be considered one such 'shortlisting' capability.

As an aside: I agree also that passion is a critical factor, however, it needs to be harnessed properly and channelled. 'Superstar' employees need superstar managers and the ability to use the passion productively - if you can't manage it or a person exhibiting it - don't hire them.
