Great article Jill; good to see you around these parts.

The candidate experience is often overlooked--especially in the area of quick feedback. Especially as candidates today are getting multiple offers while on the market...the difference between 'winning' and 'losing' could be the little things in your hiring process that make for a not so gracious candidate experience.

Excellent! Even companies who recognize the importance of employer branding sometimes forget that collectively, candidates' experiences with their hiring processes is a major influence on that. As I said in a recent posting on David Manaster's blog:

It's all about user experience!

Jill makes some excellent points in her article. I think high recruiter workloads and time constraints are big contributors to less-than-optimal candidate experiences. We work with independent recruiters and placement companies to enhance the candidate experience. Web-based RPO such as our virtual candidate coaching system provide value-added services to candidates without adding to the recruiter?s workload. I think today?s business environment dictates that we constantly seek new and efficient ways to address the needs of candidates and employers alike.

Amen Jill! We can get wrapped up in employer-centric activities like assessments, interview data, and picking the winner. But, in reality getting top talent is more candidate-centric than is intuitively obvious. I would only add the importance of how an offer is extended, and the need for a supportive entry process. They can always bolt at the last minute if reality doesn't resemble the pre-employment hype.

We at ImprovedExperience.com couldn't agree more with your article and its premise, Jill. Thanks for writing--it's always good to have someone other than us touting the importance of the candidate experience.
