Companies were asked what workplace/job factor is most beneficial to their recruiting efforts.

The workplace environment was much more important to small companies than it was to larger companies. And, in all companies, challenging work was cited far more often than salary.

The 184 organizations studied by Culpepper and Associates were in software, IT services, hardware/electronics/semiconductor, life sciences, telecom, and other fields.
