A timely, helpful, and relevant article.

Because I am very straight up with candidates I expect that candidates are straight up with me. Of course I am bitterly disappointed when they change their minds especially in cases when they have signed the Letter of Offer. I think in future I will spend a little more time in the initial interview employing an 'up-front operating agreement/contract' and encourage my consultants to do the same thing!

Having been a recruiter for several Fortune 500 companies, I saw the hard line approach of: No Degree, No Job'. I thought this practice was idiotic.
I was a recruiter without a degree for small agencies and decided to go back and get my degree. I worked very hard and had a great GPA, all while being a single parent of two kids and working full-time. I continued the pursuit for my MBA from a Big 10 University.
Guess what? I had offers from most of the Fortune 500 Companies. I could pick an choose who I wanted to work for in my career.
The question 'no experience, no job', does not hold water. Study hard, do internships and YOU can pick and choose who YOU want to work for!

Excellent topic! I use a confidential questionnaire when first working with a candidate. One of the questions asked is how they make decisions and if they stick to them and a person of integrity. This weeds out those who may have an inclination to be wishy washy.
