		<description>great piece, and thanks for finally putting this into writing...i&#039;m convinced that many firms are simply grabbing at easy numbers (eg. reduced cph or benefits of outsourcing in recruiting automation) and overlooking the real opportunity to clean house through a comprehensive audit...

as for competitive intelligence in the process, i was delighted to see you bring this up...that&#039;s my own area of specialization (ci for corporate hr), and that specific subject - gathering information on competitor processes and practices - is paramount.

however, one item to point out to those of you interested in such information: making direct calls to employees of competitors (or communications within a site such as ERE) could be seen as an impropriety.

there are many ways to get at the information, in fact, i&#039;m mulling over cranking out a more detailed step-by-step article for this very site because i don&#039;t think that i can type it all up in one reply like this, and it would definitely be a solid accompanying piece to this article</description>
