As a former I/T person and someone who worked in areas related to AI, I know that a network is just a physical structure comprised of nodes and pathways. Pathways will shrivel from lack of 'exercise.' It wouldn't surprise me if larger companies such as yours create a position along the lines of a 'Social Networking Analyst' whose job it is to massage and exercise the social network. Here's another message - Sure it can work but Social Networking is practically a full time job. Incidentally, the first meeting of the New York Metro Area ERE User Group will feature a short talk by someone who has made it a personal mantra to create a world class network using LinkedIn and ecademy.
