Bravo to Kevin Wheeler for an excellent article about how to make your internship program successful, both for the student and your organization. Kevin is absolutely right: if you're not converting at least 80 percent of your interns into permanent employees, then you've got a problem that needs fixing.

I spoke at an internship programs conference a few years ago and will never forget the presentation by Julie Cunningham, now of the Cunningham Group. She just kept hammering home the point that an internship program is all about recruitment. Keep that in mind, use Kevin's tactics, and you'll recruit your next generation of great leaders with little cost and even less risk.
